Tapestries

The carpet is the culmination of a lifetime of work, a summation of forty years of thought, planning, and constant improvement in theoretical and practical art. It is the flagship project, the product of countless sketches and experiments, many of which found their way to the trash but all of which were part of the journey.

When the decision to make it is made, the challenges begin: everything is done by hand, without modern technology, just as it has been done for thousands of years. Stretching the warp threads, choosing the weft threads, matching colors, enlarging the sketch, and then, the first rows in the colored wool.

From here, the weaver enters a meditative state, merging with the creation over months until the last line. This is the moment of catharsis: the scissors cut the warp threads, the carpet opens, and the artist finally sees the fruit of his labor.
