Roots trip

In 1995 I returned for the first time after 20 years, to the regions of my childhood and youth. An emotional encounter, nostalgic for the personal and collective past, with the history and culture of the cities of Transylvania and multicultural Central Europe. "The urban landscape paintings focus on the splendor of the past along with signs of aging of palaces from the 19th century "La belle epoque". Like a dusty and pathetic theater set. A quiet story about the history of the fall of the greatest empire of Europe that fell apart after the First World War. Two world wars, then a communist dictatorship, and its collapse, the post-communist chaos and above all the indifference of the new generation that no longer wants to study history. "It was like a dialogue between old people, sad, bitter but fascinating. And unique."

Series Each series focuses on one of the major cities of Transylvania. The salient features of their atmosphere are both similar and different, the close-ups of buildings are more "portraits" than "landscapes" in terms of the artist's perspective.
